Quality Engineer

Tucson, AZ

Company Overview

At World View, we are committed to responsible technology leadership in the collection, analysis, and delivery of actionable information from strategically deployed persistent sensors in the stratosphere.

We deliver on-demand, scheduled, and historical aerial data and analytics through stratospheric sensor deployments that provide persistent coverage, higher resolution, and differentiated value relative to traditional aerial and space-based imagery sources.

About the Role

The Quality Engineer will work closely with the Quality, Engineering, and Manufacturing teams. This individual is responsible for investigating, analyzing, and correcting systemic problems in quality, production, and process control to support World View’s Remote Sensing and Space Tourism initiatives. The role ensures that manufacturing and maintenance processes comply with rigorous aerospace standards, federal regulations, and mission-safety requirements.

Role Responsibilities

Production Quality Assurance & Compliance

· Quality System Adherence: Maintain and improve the site Quality Management System compliance to AS9100D/ISO9001, integrating AS9110C requirements for flight asset maintenance and continuous airworthiness.

· Regulatory Alignment: Ensure manufacturing and repair activities conform to 14 CFR Part 145 standards where applicable, overseeing documentation, training compliance, and component traceability.

· Process Control & Auditing: Establish, implement, and maintain robust control plans, inspection criteria, and associated quality documentation. Conduct regular product, process, and system audits.

· Authority to Stop Work: Maintain full authority to stop production or flight-hardware processing in the event of non-conforming material manufacture, unsafe practices, or unacceptable process drift.

Advanced Quality Engineering & NPI

· APQP & PPAP Lifecycle: Lead the execution of Advanced Product Quality Planning (AS9145) frameworks to support New Product Introduction (NPI) and major design transitions.

· Risk Mitigation: Champion the development, deployment, and iterative refinement of Design and Process FMEAs (Failure Mode and Effects Analysis) across cross-functional teams.

· First Article Approvals: Coordinate and execute advanced sample approvals, including comprehensive First Article Inspections (FAI) per AS9102.

· Continuous Improvement: Promote and implement advanced quality tools, including Six Sigma methodologies, Poka-Yoke (Error Proofing), Measurement System Analysis (MSA), and Statistical Process Control (SPC).

Corrective Action & Metrics Management

· Root Cause Analysis: Lead cross-functional Material Review Boards (MRB) to perform robust root cause analysis, implementing permanent Corrective and Preventive Actions (RCCA / 8D) for internal, supplier, or customer-facing failures.

· KPI Tracking: Monitor and report on internal quality Key Performance Indicators (KPIs), including scrap rates, rework levels, cost of poor quality, and internal Parts Per Million (PPM) metrics.

· Cross-Functional Liaison: Serve as the primary quality interface between manufacturing teams and engineering to resolve product specification discrepancies as quickly as possible without compromising safety.

Qualifications & Experience

Required Technical Background

· Education: Bachelor of Science (BS) degree in an engineering discipline or equivalent technical experience.

· Standards & Regulations: Strong working knowledge and direct application of AS9145 (APQP/PPAP), AS9110C, and 14 CFR Part 145 FAA repair station regulations. Core competency in AS9100/ISO9001 is required.

· Electronics & Assembly Standards: Advanced knowledge of electronics workmanship standards in accordance with IPC-A-610 and cable/wire harness assemblies per IPC/WHMA-A-620.

· Materials Expertise: Working knowledge of advanced manufacturing materials, including injection-molded/extruded thermoplastics, films, or specialized aerospace structures.

· Problem-Solving Mastery: Proven ability to apply structured lean manufacturing principles and advanced root cause analysis tools to complex systems.

Core Capabilities

· Autonomy: High level of independence in determining engineering approaches, structuring workloads, and managing cross-functional projects.

· Analytical Skills: Strong ability to synthesize complex defect data, track financial/cost impacts of quality failures, and present metrics clearly to senior leadership.

· Communication: Excellent interpersonal skills with a proven track record of building alignment between production technicians, design engineers, and regulatory stakeholder
