We design and manufacture innovative, sustainable packaging components for cold-chain shipping of food and pharmaceutical products. Job Description

The Buyer will report to the Manager, Procurement Operations. This position will: have an operational focus with emphasis on customer service and day-to-day procure to pay processes; manage transactional activities related to the purchase and delivery of assigned commodities, goods, or services; have responsibility for developing and issuing request for information / quote documents, performing bid analysis, purchase award and placement, and follow up expediting; support new supplier identification and qualification process; and manage supplier relationship. This position requires significant communication and coordination with operations, inventory control, customer service, and finance. The Buyer will continually work to improve internal customer service while ensuring security of supply and favorably impacting total cost of ownership of purchased products and services.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Procurement
    • Manage procurement of assigned goods / commodities in agreement with company policies and objectives.
    • Manage transactional activities related to the quotation, purchase, and delivery of assigned commodities.
    • Review requisitions for accuracy and completeness.
    • Continually work to improve data accuracy and system integrity.
    • Develop and utilize preferred delivery programs.
  • Supplier Management
    • Manage supplier relationships, analyze performance, and provide feedback.
    • Track and analyze commodity metrics to develop and implement improvement plans.
    • Actively pursue supply-base rationalization.
    • Evaluate supplier capabilities and performance.
    • Support new supplier identification / qualification.
    • Issue resolution
      • Defective material returns.
      • Corrective action requests.
      • Invoicing.
    • Support engineering change notices.
    • Support contract manufacturing opportunities.
  • Commodity Knowledge
    • Act as subject matter expert for assigned commodity groups.
    • Construct, present, and promote commodity procurement plans.
    • Pursue product standardization and optimization initiatives.
    • Collect and analyze commodity data.
  • Other
    • Build and maintain relationships with internal customers to identify and address needs and develop improvement opportunities.
    • Pursue continuous improvement / TCO (total cost of ownership) projects with operations, engineering, and suppliers.
    • Work with various departments to support projects and new product introductions.

Qualifications

Experience and Skills:

  • Bachelor’s Degree. Degree focus in Supply Chain, Purchasing, Operations, Business or Finance preferred.
  • 5+ or more years in a buyer position: preferably in a manufacturing environment.
  • MRP/SAP experience preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral communication (both internal and external).

Physical Requirements:

  • Be on your feet for 8-12 hours.
  • Able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted.
  • Able to reach, bend, kneel and climb while performing repetitive tasks.
  • Ability to work in hot and cold environments.
  • Able to correctly wear PPE for entire shifts.
  • Able to react and respond quickly to noises, smells, visual hazards, and alerts.
