We are currently searching for an experienced Principal Machine Learning Engineer to be a pivotal part of our Technology team. In this role, you will play a crucial role in advancing the boundaries of machine learning to develop AI solutions that directly align with Talkspace's mission. We are looking for someone with a track record of expertise in AI for mental health applications, complemented by a history of publishing academic research papers.

What You’ll Do:

  • Orchestrate Collaboration Across Teams: Command cross-functional collaboration with business stakeholders, the product team, data science department, and engineers to conceive and craft innovative algorithms and services.
    • Keyword and Topic Extraction
    • Emotion/Sentiment Identification
    • Text summarization
    • Text classification
    • Recommender systems
    • Intent detection and query parsing
  • Drive Strategic Technical Planning: Take charge of technical scoping and meticulous requirements gathering for machine learning projects, steering them seamlessly from the realms of research and development to full-scale production deployment.
  • Translate Business Imperatives into Machine Learning Solutions: Exhibit ownership in translating complex business requirements into impactful machine learning solutions, overseeing the entire execution lifecycle in close collaboration with data scientists.
  • Lead Comprehensive Machine Learning Execution: Lead the end-to-end execution of machine learning projects, instilling direction and cohesion in collaboration with data scientists and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Spearhead Tools Development: Spearhead the development of sophisticated tools for dataset creation, model training, and evaluation within the AWS environment, showcasing a commitment to cutting-edge advancements in machine learning infrastructure.
  • Architect Production-Critical Systems: Take ownership in implementing and maintaining robust build and deploy systems, ensuring the seamless operation of production-critical data science services.
  • Present Work Externally: Showcase the impact of machine learning projects through external presentations and papers, contributing to thought leadership in the field.
  • Participate in Industry Panels: Engage with industry peers by participating in panels and discussions, sharing insights and advancements in the application of machine learning within health tech.
  • Grow the Machine Learning Function at Talkspace: Leverage your expertise to not only lead machine learning projects but also contribute strategically to the continuous evolution of the function at Talkspace, including potential mentorship and hiring based on business needs.

About You

  • You hold a PhD in Computer Science, Data Science, or an Engineering-related discipline.
  • 15+ years of experience developing and deploying product-quality code.
  • 7-10+ years of experience with NLP techniques and models for text analysis, sentiment analysis, language understanding, and generation.
  • Deep experience with Python and SQL.
  • You have a strong portfolio of published academic research papers.
  • You have mastery of deep learning frameworks, and experience with deep neural networks for complex problem-solving.
  • You have a commitment to ethical AI practices and an understanding of the ethical considerations and potential biases in AI within healthcare.
  • You have extensive experience with cloud-based machine learning services and platforms (e.g., AWS SageMaker, Google AI Platform) for model development and deployment.

Compensation

At Talkspace, we believe that pay transparency during the interview process is a critical part of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Our salary bands are based on internal and external compensation benchmarks, which we regularly evaluate to ensure we pay competitively.

Within the salary bands, leveling corresponds to each candidate’s relevant experience, skills as assessed during the interview process, education, and applicable certifications. At this level, we are looking to have a conversation with candidates to benchmark a Senior-to-Principal level Engineer.
