Job Description
ABOUT US:
The Sports Data & Odds Engineering organization is responsible for developing, delivering, and operating a broad portfolio of products that power Sportradar's global sports data and betting ecosystem - processing millions of real-time events every day for media companies, sports federations, betting operators, and consumer apps across 120 countries.
Working closely with rights holders, media organizations, and betting partners, our teams build and maintain highly scalable systems that support the collection, processing, analysis, and distribution of sports data and odds across more than 30 sports disciplines, including e-sports.
The development teams based in Warsaw contribute to multiple products and initiatives across these domains, building distributed systems that operate at global scale, process millions of events daily, and deliver mission-critical services that are available 24/7.
THE CHALLENGE:
This is a role for a technical leader who wants to shape the direction of an engineering organization, not just contribute to it. You will define architecture, drive strategy across multiple teams, and have the kind of influence that makes the whole platform better - not just your corner of it. At Sportradar the problems are real, the scale is global, and the pace is fast. This is not a role for someone who wants to be told what to build.
Key Responsibilities:
- Define and drive technical architecture and engineering strategy across multiple teams and product areas
- Lead the design of scalable, high-performance distributed systems that process millions of real-time events daily
- Own complex cross-functional initiatives with significant business impact, from first principles through to production
- Set engineering standards, architecture principles, and the long-term technical roadmap for your area
- Mentor Senior Engineers and act as the technical anchor for teams working through ambiguous, high-stakes problems
- Influence engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders - and translate technical strategy into business outcomes they care about
- Bring deep expertise in AWS, cloud-native platforms, Kubernetes, and event-driven architectures to decisions that matter at org level
- Lead platform modernization, technical transformation, and large-scale migration initiatives where needed
ABOUT YOU:
You are a recognized technical leader with a track record that speaks for itself. You have solved organization-scale problems before, you know how to bring people with you, and you understand that the best technical decisions are also good business decisions. You do not need a title to have influence - you have it because of how you think and how you operate.
Required:
- You have 8+ years of professional software development experience with extensive Java expertise and a strong track record in large-scale distributed systems
- You can lead architecture and technical strategy across multiple teams or products and driven initiatives with real business impact
- You have deep expertise in AWS, Docker, Kubernetes, and modern platform engineering - not just familiarity with the tools, but judgment about when and how to use them
- You have mentored Senior Engineers and shaped engineering culture without needing direct management authority
- You communicate with clarity at every level - from a technical deep dive with engineers to a strategic conversation with leadership
- You can define engineering standards and long-term roadmaps that teams actually use
- Experience in real-time, high-availability systems or mission-critical environments at global scale is a strong advantage
- A background in sports technology, betting, fintech, or other highly transactional environments is a plus - but the ability to learn a domain fast matter more
OUR OFFER:
- A collaborative environment with colleagues from all over the world (Engineering offices in Europe, Asia and US)
- Ability to shape your own workday and career via a clearly defined professional and personal development plan
- Opportunity to work with senior leadership team and develop yourself within an inspiring and fast-growing company
- Vibrant and inclusive community, including Women in Tech and Pride groups which welcome all participants
- Flexible working hours
OUR RECRUITMENT PROCESS:
Initial Screening - A brief conversation with our Talent Acquisition Partner to review your background, experience, and expectations.
Technical Task - A take-home coding assignment designed to reflect our daily work, completed at your convenience.
Technical Interview - An in-depth discussion on your submitted coding task, including a review of your thought process, live coding exercises, and a system design discussion tailored to the level of the role.
Cultural Fit Interview - A conversation with Senior Management to assess your ability to work in a matrix organization and collaborate effectively with stakeholders across the business.
Final Step - Receive feedback and, if successful, an offer!
