About the Internship
ProRata.ai is seeking a highly motivated college or graduate student to join our 2026 Summer Internship Program. This hands-on experience takes place at the intersection of AI, design, and the future of the open web — where your work directly supports the creators and publishers who make the internet worth exploring. As a Product Design Intern, you won't be shadowing from the sidelines. Instead, you'll be fully embedded with the team, working on real design challenges that influence how AI credits, surfaces, and compensates the content behind every search result.

This is an amazing opportunity to work at a technology startup – ProRata was founded by entrepreneur Bill Gross and is incubated at Idealab Studio.

This role is based in our Pasadena, CA office, but may consider a remote position for non-locally based candidate.

Qualifications

• Education: A current undergraduate (Junior/Senior) or graduate student pursuing a degree in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Communications, or related field.

• Availability: Able to commit to a minimum of 30 hours per week for ten consecutive weeks this summer.

• Experience & Skills: High proficiency in Figma, an excellent visual design eye, a solid understanding of UX principles and product thinking, and genuine curiosity about design, AI and search technology.

What You'll Focus On

• Design for AI transparency: You'll help address one of the biggest design challenges today—making AI accountable. Work together on designing our AI-powered search and attribution platform, creating interfaces that provide publishers with clear, meaningful insight into how their content is discovered, credited, and valued in the era of AI.

• Build for the user: This isn't an "assist with" role; you'll own it. Lead the end-to-end product design process from initial concepts and user flows to wireframes, prototypes, and polished UI, making sure every touchpoint across ProRata's product suite, Gist, feels seamless and intuitive for the publishers, advertisers, and creators who depend on it.

• Contribute to our design system: Great products are built on strong foundations. You'll design and maintain reusable components and patterns that drive Gist’s design system.

• Visual design: Bring your creative vision to life. Introduce fresh design elements that elevate Gist’s aesthetic and ensure every new component feels cohesive, intentional, and unmistakably on-brand.

Compensation

• The compensation for this position will be competitive and commensurate with experience. The estimated hourly range for this internship is $23-30/hour (for 30-40 hours a week) for the duration of the internship. (Role not eligible for benefits).
