About Origin

Origin is building the endpoint AI observability platform for AI-adopting organizations. We believe that organizations should not adopt AI on their endpoints without observability in place, and we want to be the platform that maximizes the productivity & safety of that adoption.

The company exists to maximize the diffusion of intelligence inside an organization, maximize the productivity of agentic systems and the humans driving them, keep agent actions traceable end-to-end so that when a user asks for something in a prompt they can verify the agent actually did what was expected, and give organizations one interface to answer the hardest questions they have about how work gets done.

Our platform monitors and protects some of the most important organizations in the world. We are backed by Sequoia Capital, Brightmind Ventures, IA Ventures and other top firms.

Role

Origin is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer to own the gap between a customer having Origin deployed and the customer realizing meaningful, expanding value from it.

This is a customer-embedded product engineering role - not a traditional Sales Engineer, Technical Account Manager, or support role. You will work directly inside customer environments, study how AI is actually being used, uncover valuable problems the customer may not yet know how to articulate, and build the first solution. You will then turn what you learn into reusable product leverage for Origin.

You will spend most of your time building: querying traces, creating signals and analytical workflows, developing integrations, prototyping new capabilities, and contributing production code when a missing capability stands between a customer and a meaningful outcome. The right person is equally credible writing a query or pull request, leading a technical working session, and explaining to an executive why the result matters.

Travel may be required for this role, up to approximately 20%.

Responsibilities

  • Own technical value realization for a portfolio of strategic customers, from first live data through durable adoption and expansion.

  • Work directly inside customer tenants and systems to understand their AI workflows, operational constraints, and most consequential problems.

  • Independently interrogate traces using Origin's dashboard, SQL and ClickHouse, APIs, and MCP-based tools and bring customers useful discoveries rather than waiting for them to specify what should be built.

  • Turn discoveries into working artifacts, such as queries, canvases, dashboards, signals, integrations, workflows, prototypes, and production code.

  • Lead technical discovery with customer engineers, security teams, AI platform teams, and executives, translating ambiguous business problems into tractable technical work.

  • Scope and deliver customer-specific solutions while exercising judgment about what should remain bespoke and what should become part of the core platform.

  • Design and implement custom telemetry integrations, data adapters, analytical logic, and full-stack experiences for complex customer environments.

  • Partner with Deployment and Engineering to remove access, integration, reliability, and rollout blockers without becoming the standing support queue.

  • Write clear technical specifications and contribute directly to the codebase when progress or clarity depends on it.

  • Establish a concrete narrative of value for every engagement: the problem observed, the evidence in the data, what was built, and the measurable change it produced.

  • Convert field experience into product leverage by documenting reusable patterns, identifying recurring gaps, and giving Product and Engineering evidence that can change the roadmap.

  • Help define the operating model, tools, and standards for Origin's growing Forward Deployed Engineering function.

Skills & Experience

  • At least five years of experience building and delivering production software, data systems, security products, or technically complex enterprise solutions.

  • Strong hands-on engineering ability across some combination of Python, TypeScript/JavaScript, React, Rust, APIs, backend systems, data pipelines, and cloud infrastructure.

  • Ability to independently explore unfamiliar, high-volume datasets and find meaningful signals inside noisy operational data.

  • Experience working directly with demanding enterprise customers and operating credibly with both hands-on engineers and senior executives.

  • The ability to decompose vague, high-level problems into a sequence of technical decisions and shipped artifacts.

  • High agency. You naturally explore the environment, form a point of view, and act before being given a detailed task list.

  • Strong product judgment. You can distinguish a one-customer workaround from a reusable platform capability and synthesize feature requests into the underlying problem.

  • Clear, direct communication. You can run a technical room, explain complicated systems without hiding behind jargon, and connect engineering work to customer outcomes.

  • Sound judgment under pressure and comfort making tradeoffs between scope, speed, and quality in ambiguous production environments.

  • Strong follow-through. You document findings, decisions, delivered artifacts, outcomes, and product implications so the organization can learn from the work.

  • Genuine enthusiasm for working alongside customers. Customers trust you because you are technically useful, candid, calm, and enjoyable to work with.

  • Daily fluency with modern AI development tools and excitement about working at the frontier of enterprise AI adoption.

Nice to Haves

  • Prior experience in forward deployed engineering, technical consulting, professional services, solutions engineering, or another customer-facing role where you personally shipped the solution.

  • Early-stage startup experience or experience as a technical founder or early engineer who built a product from scratch.

  • Experience building dashboards, detections, analytical workflows, or data products on top of high-volume event or telemetry data.

  • Experience with enterprise identity, SSO, endpoint management, observability, SIEM/SOAR, cloud infrastructure, or security operations.

  • Experience with AI agents, LLM applications, evaluation systems, MCP, model gateways, or agent observability.

  • Operating system fundamentals across Windows and/or macOS, including processes, memory, system security mechanisms, and resource-constrained software.

  • Background in security operations, incident response, red teaming, or endpoint security products such as EDR/XDR platforms.

  • Experience with AWS, GCP, or Azure; Docker and Kubernetes and infrastructure-as-code tools such as Terraform.

  • Domain expertise in industries such as healthcare, financial services, manufacturing, supply chain, or technology.
