Hermeus is an aerospace and defense technology company founded to radically accelerate air travel by delivering hypersonic aircraft. The company aims to develop hypersonic aircraft quickly and cost-effectively by integrating hardware-rich, iterative development with modern computing and autonomy. This approach has been validated through design, build, and test of the company’s first combined turbojet-ramjet engine and is now being scaled through its first flight vehicle program, Quarterhorse. Hermeus is also developing Darkhorse — an uncrewed hypersonic aircraft designed to deliver unique asymmetric capabilities to the warfighter.
The Business Development team at Hermeus is seeking a dynamic and innovative professional to help expand our engagement with the defense and intelligence enterprise both in the United States and in allied markets. To be blunt, we’re looking for an “Athlete”—someone who embraces challenges and consistently adds value.
For Hermeus, leveraging hypersonic aircraft to meet government needs is a critical step toward safely and comfortably flying passengers at Mach 5. We are looking for an individual who can effectively represent our company’s vision to government stakeholders, identify and pursue opportunities to enhance our government and national security efforts, and collaborate seamlessly with our engineering, operations, and product teams as they build the world’s fastest aircraft.
We’re creating a diverse team with one overarching goal: advancing government partnerships to accelerate the development and deployment of hypersonic aircraft. Come join us and help build a public-private partnership that will lead to a faster future.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day management and oversight of Business Development team administrative tools to ensure that the business remains focused and aligned on all growth activities (e.g., budgeting tools, BAA/RFP/RFI tools, Airtable, etc.).
  • Manage follow-up communications, as necessary, with critical clients to ensure that deal and partnership momentum is maintained (e.g., be a force multiplier).
  • Support in-person and virtual engagements through the development of relevant briefing materials, organization of appropriate stakeholder and engineering support, and execution of any necessary logistical arrangements.
  • Represent Hermeus at conferences and trade shows.
  • Manage and update collateral on a regular basis to ensure potential customers have an accurate understanding of Hermeus’ progress and corporate messaging.
  • Conduct analysis of government activity, including DoD budget data, congressional hearings, think tank reports, and legislation, to guide the Growth team in pursuing high-impact opportunities.
  • Serve as a functional liaison from the Growth Team to a set of internal, cross-functional partners, including Engineering, Program Management, Finance, Government Relations, and Communications.
  • Create capacity and increase the effectiveness of the Growth Team by ensuring all incoming tasks are assigned to the appropriate team member and, with experience, taking ownership of tasks yourself.
  • Maintain the company BD pipeline in coordination with the CRO and the finance team.

Requirements:

  • 3+ years of experience in banking, consulting, defense technology, or the congressional/executive branch.
  • Comfortable setting and achieving goals in a complex, multi-disciplinary, and fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to forge trusting relationships with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • Available to work in Washington, DC.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Must have ability to obtain and maintain TS-level security clearance.

Multipliers:

  • Familiarity with the defense budgeting process, as well as general defense industry participants and associated technologies.
  • Passion for developing innovative approaches to national security.
