Atlanta, GA, USA
Posted on Thursday, March 16, 2023
Hermeus is a startup developing hypersonic aircraft to radically accelerate air travel. At Mach 5, more than twice the speed of the supersonic Concorde, passengers will be able to cross the Atlantic in 90 minutes. On the path to hypersonic passenger aircraft, Hermeus is partnering with government agencies including the US Air Force and NASA to develop a series of autonomous aircraft that derisk the technology and solve urgent national security challenges. These products provide the data and confidence necessary to certify, produce, operate, and maintain safe and comfortable commercial aircraft. Hypersonic aircraft have the potential to create trillions of dollars of new global economic growth per year, unlocking significant resources that can be utilized to solve the world’s greatest problems.
Hermeus is seeking a senior RF antenna engineer to join our team. Our aircrafts are unique so as our RF antenna needs. Our antennas range from stripline and microstrip to big tracking dishes and everything in between. The individual will work closely with colleagues and customers to identify RF hardware requirements and create new designs as well as support customer proposals for new projects. The qualified engineer will lead design, performance verification and support fabrication. If you are a highly-motivated engineer focused on delivering products and owning projects from concept to delivery – please apply today.

About the Role:

  • Simulate/model RF hardware for communication systems and sensors/instruments.
  • Antenna design from initial concept through prototype development, production and test.
  • Designing new antenna products; front end systems for RADAR, SATCOM, GPS, and Telemetry applications.
  • Be responsible for the hands-on design and realization of individual antennas, phased array antennas, RF circuits, passive RF components, and RF systems.
  • Develop test concepts and test procedures for RF and Environmental testing, including far field and near field measurements (plus vibration, shock, thermal and thermal vacuum).
  • Simulate/model RF hardware for communication systems and sensors/instruments.
  • Design and validate RF electronic circuits and systems such as RF amplifier, communications front-end, LNA, Mixer, BUCs, Feed network, and etc.
  • Define hardware architecture and specifications for the RF system blocks, interfaces, and housing. Design, build and test microwave circuits and assemblies.
  • End-to-end design validation and testing of RF product performance. Lead and conduct troubleshooting or root cause hardware performance challenges.
  • Work with manufacturing and production teams on producing and integrating quality RF/Antenna subsystems into our aircrafts.

About You:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline, Masters or PhD preferred with emphasis in Antenna, Electromagnetic theory and/or microwave circuits.
  • 5+ years of professional experience designing and testing Antenna and/or RF hardware and systems
  • Experience with RF/Antenna Systems in L/S/C/Ku and Ka-Band frequencies.
  • Familiarity with Antenna design, including types and tradeoffs, planar, patch, horn, slotted waveguide, parabolic dish, and radome design.
  • Understanding of electromagnetic propagation, impedance matching, Smith Chart, VSWR, P1dB, IIP3, NF, and etc.
  • Understanding of digital modulations such as QAM, BPSK, QPSK, and SOQPSK or similar.
  • Experience working with VNA, spectrum analyzers, RF power meters, and other relevant RF test equipment.
  • Demonstrated experience working collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • RF PCB design techniques including material selection, multi-layer RF transition design and validation and board-to-board RF transitions, PCBA layout and construction techniques.
  • High-level expertise in HFSS (or similar antenna simulation tools)
  • Strong hands-on skills including prototyping/soldering and the use of a full range of instrumentation including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, network analyzers etc.
  • Support ongoing regulatory filling including FCC, FAA, and AFTRCC.

Additional Desired Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills, and demonstrated ability to collaborate with other engineering disciplines
  • EMI/EMC testing per MIL-STD-461
  • Prior work on a launch vehicle
  • Experience in a startup or agile development environment
