About the Position
FiscalNote is seeking an experienced, agile, and innovative SVP of People and DEIBA to determine, communicate, lead and execute on the company’s human resources and DEIBA strategies in order to support FiscalNote in its next stage of aggressive global growth. This pivotal leadership role, which reports into the President/COO and is part of the company’s Senior Leadership Team, will set the vision for and lead FiscalNote’s efforts to enhance our growth culture and implement scalable infrastructure, policies, and practices that support FiscalNote’s workforce worldwide. In addition, as the SVP of People & DEIBA at our NYSE-listed public company, you will be responsible for important compliance obligations and will work closely with the Compensation Committee of the Board of Directors on executive compensation matters, succession planning, and more.
About the People Team
The People Team is the engine that drives our company’s growth. By aligning People strategies and programs with our organizational goals, the team ensures that the right talent is in place, performance is optimized, and employees are engaged, leading to improved effectiveness and success.
The team is responsible for the entirety of the team member life cycle by:
* Developing diverse pipelines of top tier talent and ensuring a positive candidate experience from the first touchpoint, and collaborating with the brand team to execute all the company's employer branding strategies
* Onboarding new talent (whether joining organically or through acquisition) in a way that fosters excitement and enthusiasm, and in which the company’s culture, priorities, policies and Employee Value Proposition are reinforced
* Ensuring employee engagement through a positive work environment that fosters appropriate opportunities for Learning & Development and career advancement
* Leveraging company equity (in a manner consistent with required public company processes) in order to ensure that all team members have a meaningful ownership stake in the business and are appropriately motivated to take action and collaborate in order to achieve company-wide success
* Advising leaders across the company on workforce planning, organizational development and core management issues
* Providing a balanced compensation and benefits package in each jurisdiction where we operate that is consistent with employee needs, company values, and profitability targets
* Leveraging company equity (in a manner consistent with required public company processes) in order to ensure that all team members have a meaningful ownership stake in the business and are appropriately motivated to take action and collaborate in order to achieve company-wide success
* Supporting employees with effective systems and platforms (e.g., HRIS), as well as clear, accessible policies and standard operating procedures
* Evaluating potential acquisitions and leading HR-related integration processes in the context of an active M&A program
* Complying with obligations under laws and regulations applicable to each phase of the team member life cycle
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Belonging, and Accessibility (DEIBA) is an essential pillar for our company, and this position and the People Team are integral in supporting everyone’s efforts across the organization to achieve our collective DEIBA goals, including as they relate to training, talent recruitment, and talent advancement. This role will also partner closely with the company’s DEIBA Committee to:
* Set annual DEIBA goals for the organization and be responsible for implementing and reporting on goals
* Ensure all aspects of DEIBA are represented, considered and supported within our global
workforce, and throughout the team member lifecycleImplement practices and behaviors that ensure hybrid work is accessible and inclusive
* Engage with company leadership and stakeholders to cultivate and model a global culture reflective of transparent, actionable, and purposeful DEIBA practices and initiatives
* Serve as executive sponsor of the DEIBA Committee, providing guidance on relevant issues and support for DEIBA Committee-specific goal setting and execution
About You
You are an outcome-oriented, engaging, and empathetic leader of diverse teams, able to think and act broadly as part of a global public company. You have a proven track record of successfully leading HR teams, building HR practices of excellence, and managing change and transformation. You empower your teams to act but you stay engaged and have a bias for action to roll up your sleeves when needed. You know how to develop an engaging environment for employees around the world and how to leverage various programs and platforms (including public company equity) to keep employees engaged and satisfied in their work. You’re nimble and innovative enough to try new things, stay at the forefront of changing industry trends and practices, and adapt to shifting priorities, yet you’re also focused and systematic enough to lead your team with a steady hand and provide the company with lasting frameworks, policies and SOPs. You enjoy learning new things and solving novel problems. You’re as comfortable in a startup as you are in a global public company.

What to Expect in this Position:

  • Successfully lead the People Team to serve the company’s objectives as outlined above
  • Drive the planning and approaches that align FiscalNote’s values and culture in total rewards & compensation, talent acquisition, HRIS and data analytics, talent management, learning & development, compliance, and Team Member engagement, inclusion & culture
  • Oversee and guide execution of DEIBA efforts at the company and establish short and long-range quantifiable goals, objectives, and practices to support them
  • Function as a business advisor to the executive and senior management team at FiscalNote regarding key organizational, workforce, and talent management issues
  • Partner with senior leaders to proactively develop and implement programs that promote inclusion, collaboration, growth mindset, coaching culture and other values-based behaviors to create a rich and diverse work environment for team members
  • Work closely with the Legal Team on compliance with applicable employment laws, development of company policies, and proper handling of internal complaints and ethics matters
  • Collaborate with the Legal Team and the Board of Directors on matters related to public company compliance obligations, our Long Term Incentive Plan, executive compensation, and succession planning

What Sets You Apart:

  • 15+ years of experience, including as a growth driver at a public technology company, participating in M&A, and leading diverse, global workforces
  • A track record of HR leadership success, including a demonstrated ability to earn the respect of your team and ability to strike the right balance between leading team members and owning and implementing key initiatives
  • The ability to drive innovation and growth, establish scalable policies and programs, and successfully achieve DEIBA goals
  • Experience driving talent engagement and retention through workforce planning and leveraging talent in markets around the world in order to drive effective and efficient execution against company priorities
  • Data-driven and goal-oriented, you measure success both quantitatively and qualitatively, and understand the importance of both
  • Experience implementing and utilizing goal-setting frameworks and HRIS systems on a global scale
  • Deep knowledge of public company Board governance, executive compensation planning, public company equity plans, performance management, leadership development, organizational design, and succession planning
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to communicate difficult situations or decisions with equal parts empathy and solid confidence in your judgment
  • Excellent conflict management and resolution capabilities, excellent critical thinking skills, and a keen understanding of how to lead organizational change, empower people and influence colleagues
  • Ability to move quickly and proactively in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment while juggling multiple competing priorities
