Regional AV Manager

The Regional AV Manager oversees all services used to deliver technology to our customers and associates including networking, desktop support, audio, video, HSIA, audio & video conferencing, webcasting, and lighting for different types of meetings and events throughout Convene’s NYC region. The Regional AV Manager works closely with the teams to deliver an excellent meeting, conference, and working experience.

The Regional AV Manager oversees Technology Managers, AV Supervisors, and AV Operations Specialists in supporting/executing customer needs and helps to manage, train, and lead the teams in personal, technical, and career development/training. The person in this role will also work directly with the sales and event teams to deliver excellent client experiences.

What You’ll Do:

People Management, Training & Development:

  • Day-to-day management of the AV Specialists and Managers in the NYC region
  • Oversight of the AV Operation Specialist(AVOS) Pool for development road mapping and adherence to training standards.
  • Oversight of the AVOS Convene Certification process for all relevant On The Job Training Modules.
  • Interview and hire prospective candidates for all positions in the department using targeted selection.
  • Participate in employee appraisals.
  • Cross-train in other conference center-related areas.
  • Assist with developing a healthy employee relations climate, including employee motivation and coaching.
  • Participate in collaborative project efforts with both the technology team and other departments
  • Stay current on industry trends in special events/meetings through benchmarking, trade publications, competitive shopping, and special event conferences.
  • Review all departmental SOPs quarterly and update them as needed.

Operations Management:

  • Provide ad-hoc troubleshooting and assistance to customers of all technology competency levels
  • Management/troubleshooting of AV equipment, including but not limited to audio, video, lighting, computer networking systems, and hardware both in-house and client systems
  • Evaluation and troubleshooting personal computer hardware and software, peripheral devices, mobile devices, and network component problems
  • Preprogram coordination with client ensuring that all of their technological needs are met and in place for their arrival
  • Ensure that booking guidelines are followed and that all leaders are maximizing space and revenue through audits and the weekly program execution order meetings
  • Provide genuine anticipatory customer service by establishing good working relationships with Convene team members, divisions, and vendors
  • Attend PEO, Pre-Con, and pre-production meetings as needed
  • Direct day-to-day support of Technology Managers including financial management and scheduling
  • Create weekly schedules for Technology Specialists and coordinate with various properties to share resources
  • Delegate tasks to other Technology Managers, Supervisors, and Specialists


Customer Service:

  • Make personal contact and maintain positive relationships with clients and assist with any reasonable requests during programs.
  • Interact with Sales and Production teams to ensure a thorough understanding of the client experience with Convene prior to the start of their meeting/event.
  • Liaise with the AV Sales organization to identify impactful opportunities for cross departmental collaboration in support of the Client.
  • Prepare and follow-up on all sales quotes using revenue maximization techniques in accordance with Convene standard operating procedures.
  • Assist in any areas of daily operation.

Administrative:

  • Responsible for weekly financial reporting of client programs, tracking labor hours/dollar amounts, as well as spending.
  • Direct oversight and ownership, alongside the Area Directors of Operations and GMs, of all property P&L responsibilities.
  • Responsible for Vendor management including, but not limited to, labor procurement, equipment rental, and relationship management with all vendors.
  • Weekly auditing of aging reports from Vendors to ensure all properties within the region are in good standing.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting process for Regional properties.
  • Completion of weekly/monthly status reports for the region in tandem with the Area Directors of Operations.
  • Maintain and uphold Convene’s cultural standards.
  • Perform other duties as requested by management.
  • Show initiative and proactive drive to solve problems.
  • Portray a polished, professional image according to Convene dress code standards.

Physical Requirements:

  • Flexible, long, and weekend hours sometimes required
  • Ability to move, lift, carry, push, pull, and place objects up to 25 pounds without assistance
  • Ability to reach overhead and below the knees, including bending, twisting, pulling, and stooping
  • Ability to stand, sit, or walk for an extended period of time
  • Ability to climb and work on a ladder for lengthy periods of time

What We Look For:

  • 7+ years’ of progressive IT and AV experience
  • 5+ years’ experience in managing IT and AV equipment with live events
  • Knowledge of computer networking/maintenance and software systems
  • 5+ years’ experience leading team members
  • Hospitality and customer service experience required
  • Extensive knowledge of audiovisual equipment including analog/digital audio mixers, wireless microphone systems, seamless video switchers, and projectors/displays
  • Possess a basic understanding of Crestron hardware/functionality and other control systems
  • Basic knowledge of data networking principles, architecture, and applications
  • Salesforce and CRM knowledge
  • Experience in the basic installation, configuration, operation, and administration of operating systems, applications and hardware for Macs, PCs, LANs, servers
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, Google, and Apple iWorks suite of business applications
  • Ability to lead and manage other team members over a geographic area while working effectively with both internal and external clients
  • Experiencing supporting P&L management and budgeting processes with input from other Area and Regional Leaders
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred

Base Salary:

Salary Min: $110,000 Salary Max: $125,000

This role is also eligible for Convene's annual incentive performance bonus plan.

This information reflects the anticipated base salary range for this position based on current national data. Minimums and maximums may vary based on location. Individual pay is based on skills, experience and other relevant factors.
