Overview: Role

We are seeking a Group & Catering Sales Manager for our Governors Island Retreat. You will be responsible for receiving, handling and covering all inbound groups, catering and social inquiries, meeting revenue targets, and enhancing our overall sales experience.

This role is for a well-rounded, flexible and creative sales professional who loves to be challenged and takes ownership in all their responsibilities. You must enjoy thinking creatively and strategically, and be willing to break the mold and approach our business through a different lens. You enjoy collaborating and being an approachable and great communicator is a must. Flexibility and openness is critical. You are a travel enthusiast who has a passion for the outdoors, being an engaged member of the team and about what we’re building at Collective Retreats.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish a client base of individuals, organizations, associations, social, and/or corporate businesses through direct outbound and inside sales efforts to secure group, catering and social business for the Retreat
  • Actively prospect and qualify new business.
  • Receive, handle and convert inbound catering, and event inquires
  • Assist in planning events in conjunction between the client and our Retreats
  • Creates, distributes and follows-up on proposals
  • Contract negotiation, including food & beverage minimums, offerings and pricing, venue rental fees, group activities, and room rates
  • Prepares all meeting & event contracts
  • Responsible for initiating payment requests and works closely with our accounting team to collect and confirm payments, also ensuring payments are recorded accurately
  • Contact and interact with clients in person, over the phone, and through email
  • Coordinate and be present for site inspections with Retreat Leadership
  • Work closely with Retreat Leadership, Events & Culinary Team to ensure services and expectations agreed upon in the sales process are able to to facilitated or met
  • Responsible for meeting or exceeding individual revenue goals
  • Collaborate with Director and Reservations team to determine need dates and revenue strategies for selling
  • Assist in developing special group and events collateral, packages and unique experiences that reinforce the Collective brand
  • Encourage repeat business through excellent service and strong customer relationships
  • Ensure online meeting partner websites are regularly updated and managed including photos, descriptions and promotions
  • Ensure all inquiries are recorded accurately in Sales software
  • Other responsibilities as assigned by the Director

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Must have a passion for what we are building, the brand, and the guest experience
  • Bachelor’s degree from a top tier college or university. Degree in Marketing, Hospitality, Business,
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience hospitality Sales for events, meetings and/or catering
  • Experience in the travel industry required.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen and analytical experience in price/yield management, budgeting and spend management
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, highly organized, exceptional attention to detail,
  • Prior experience in a new business or startup is highly desired. Strong interest in building a company (including new processes and systems) from the ground up. Comfortable managing through ambiguity and working with limited data
  • Deep experience working with tripleseat, reservation and property management systems, and CRM platforms
  • Prior experience building out a sales department for newer venue

Requirements for Employment:

  • Fluent in English
  • Authorized to work in the U.S.

Compensation & Perks:

  • Salary Range: $65,000 to $75,000 based on experience
  • Incentives based on revenue booked
  • Healthcare coverage
