Lead Product Designer (UI/UX)

At its core, BasicBlock helps get truck drivers paid faster. Period. Our industry-leading software and financial services allow independent truck drivers to spend less time worrying about cash flow and more time focused on the road.

Our company is one of the few workplaces where you can experience the drive and ambition of Silicon Valley alongside the friendly, hard-working qualities of the Great Plains. If you join our team, we’ll let you take the reins, as long as you produce quality work in return. We’re a focused and authentic team that prioritizes ownership and creates an environment where everyone can do their best work.

Job Description

We are looking for a hands-on Lead Product Designer to own the design of our digital products and customer experiences.

You will be our primary designer, working directly with product managers, engineers, company leadership, and our customers to turn complex ideas into intuitive, polished experiences. This is an individual-contributor role for someone who enjoys doing the work, from understanding a problem and mapping user flows to building high-fidelity mockups and refining the final product alongside engineers.

Because you will be the company’s dedicated product designer, you’ll have significant influence over how our products look, feel, and evolve. You should be comfortable operating independently, managing multiple priorities, and bringing clarity to projects that may begin with limited direction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end design process for our web and mobile products.
  • Translate business requirements and customer needs into user flows, wireframes, prototypes, and polished user interfaces.
  • Design intuitive experiences for complex financial and transportation workflows.
  • Create responsive, mobile-first designs across multiple screen sizes and platforms.
  • Develop and maintain a cohesive design system and reusable component library.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers and engineers from initial concept through implementation.
  • Support additional design needs across the company, including landing pages, sales materials, internal tools, presentations, and other projects as needed.

Qualifications

  • At least 4 years of professional experience in product design, UI/UX design, or a similar role.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating thoughtful product design across web and mobile experiences.
  • Advanced proficiency with Figma or comparable interface design and prototyping tools.
  • Experience taking products or features through the complete design process, from early concepts to production.
  • Strong understanding of interaction design, visual hierarchy, responsive design, and usability principles.
  • Ability to work independently, clearly explain design decisions, and move projects forward with limited direction.
  • Must be able to reliably commute to our Lincoln, Nebraska office. This is a full-time, in-office position.

What Success Looks Like

  • Our products become easier, faster, and more intuitive for truck drivers and internal teams to use.
  • Product ideas are translated into clear, implementation-ready designs.
  • Our web and mobile experiences feel consistent and unmistakably BasicBlock.

Benefits

  • Employee stock options
  • Paid time off
  • Health insurance
  • Dental insurance
  • Vision insurance
  • Complimentary caffeine, whatever your brand, soda, and snacks
  • Weekly team lunches on us
